Prickly Spring

One of my favorite things about spring is how you notice things in a new way. On a hike recently, I couldn’t get over how yellowy-green this tree was:

After a color starved winter, it was like I had never seen such greenness before. And I came to a shocked stop before this:

Such pretty thorns! Maroon branches bristling with vigor and fierce GROWTH – spring popping the last pretense of winter. By all means, have at it!

Love that last picture, the contrast of the cranberry branches with the white thorns is so pretty. I see buds on some but although I’m sure the flowers are beautiful, I like the stalks just as they are in your photo

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a tree with yellow/green needles like this, it’s cool!

Thanks Amy! I can’t remember if this is the same thorny bush that just remains thorny and leafy, or if it is the other type of thorny bush that produces beach roses. Either way, I had never noticed how pretty the thorns were before this, and that was worth discovering. 🙂
